Atlas Incorporates New USA Common Core Standards

Rubicon International is pleased to announce that the recently released Common Core Standards for English Language Arts and Mathematics developed by the U.S. National Governors Association and the Council of Chief State School Officers (CCSSO) are now included within the compilation of standards available to Atlas clients.

The final Common Core Standards for English and Math were released on June 2, 2010, and define the knowledge and skills children should be learning from kindergarten through high school graduation. According to the Common Core State Standards Initiative Committee, the Common Core State Standards provide a consistent, clear understanding of what students are expected to learn, and are designed to be robust and relevant to the real world, reflecting the knowledge and skills that students need for success in college and in their careers.

As a part of Rubicon's standards compilation, the Common Core State Standards can be included within a school or district's set of referenced or aligned standards. The functionality currently available in the Atlas Curriculum Management System allows schools to align curriculum to various sets of standards along with providing the ability to support a customized set of standards, which can be developed and updated using Atlas' Standards Maintenance Tool. Atlas also offers teachers and administrators analytical tools for reviewing the articulation of standards throughout a school or district's curriculum.

Although the Common Core State Standards have been approved, many U.S. states have yet to sign on in support of the Standards. The U.S. states that have pledged their support, will be examining the Common Core State Standards to develop strategies for adoption in the coming months. Rubicon's Standards Team will be closely monitoring each state for intended adoption timelines and implementation plans.
